Joyetech Atopack Magic Review

Joyetech ended 2018 being one of the most innovative companies of the year.  But do they continue the trend or has the magic worn off quickly?

Going into the second half of last year, Joyetech had followed up their Notch Coil tank with something far more exciting, the Cubis Max with the heat film coil-less system.  It was a massive step for vaping technology and it was surprisingly good.  After the battery life issue of the Ultex, they came back with the Espion tour which completely fixed the issue and provided vapers with a real alternative to standard vaping.  Kicking off 2019, Joyetech have brought the world’s first Rewickable Pod system.   The Joyetech Atopack Magic serves to be a continuation of the new technology into a pod form, does it translate well or will the Atopack show its card up its sleeve too early?  Before we get into that, let’s get into the details.

About the Joyetech Atopack Magic

The Atopack magic is a pod system device that comes compatible with the Heat film coil-less system from the Cubis Max tank.  It is a 1300 mAh internal battery chargeable via USB.  The device is made from stainless steel and comes with a large fire button on the front and usb charging port on the back.  Charge time seems to be around 120 minutes via USB cable and comes with battery indicators.  A constant light means full battery, then the light will flash more intermittently the lower the battery level becomes.   3 clicks of the fire button allows you to cycle through different colours of the indicator light and 5 clicks shuts the device off.  The battery delivers around 20w to the pod itself giving a light MTL / DL vape depending on preference.

The pods that come with the Atopack have a massive 7mil capacity alongside the coil-less system.  For a more in depth run down of the coil-less system, you can read about it HERE.  The pods come with the Heat film heating plate found on the bottom of the pod.  The life on the heat film is around 3 months at least with the lower wattage arguably increasing it for the Atopack.  There is a small square of cotton that is changeable and can be accessed via the provided tweezers to access the bottom of the coil alongside the fill hole.  Both features are covered by a plastic strip that snaps into place underneath.  Airflow comes from one hole on the side of the pod that is not adjustable.  Each pod comes with a label if you wished to use only one flavour in each pod.

Atopack Magic Pros

As with any of the new Joyetech heat film devices, the first thing to mention is the coil life.  It is estimated to be at around 3 months before it requires changing so potentially each pod you purchase has that sort of life span.  The cotton square will need replacing every 3 empties of the tank but the pod life is fantastic in this regard.  When you factor in the cost of buying cotton and replacement pods, you could be looking at around £10 for the whole year for the Atopack which is amazingly good value for money.  The indicator lights show stronger from the USB port rather than the button which in a natural use of the device makes them perfectly placed, rather than from the button itself like similar devices.  Battery life is really good for a low end internal device, using as intended it will last you all day without any issues which is fantastic to see again. The Atopack has a good weight to it making it feel really well made and solid in the hand compared to similar pod systems available.  The device fires quite quickly and accurately providing a sustainable power level over the battery life.

Flavour from the pod is actually pretty good, with the limitations of the heat film system there still but plenty of flavour from simpler flavours coming through boldly.  Additionally with the coil-less style, it allows for longer draws without any dry-hits which offers the MTL/DL choice to vapers which is always a nice bonus to have.  Vapour production for the power level is pretty good as well, which again borrows from the coil-less style that can offer the longer draws.

Atopack Magic Cons

The first con for me with the Atopack is probably going to be the size in comparison to the battery capacity.  It is on the larger side of pod systems which may be a turn off for some vapers who prefer smaller pod system.  It fits comfortably in the hand but it isn’t a discrete device by any means.  The next thing I can probably say is more of a personal con and that is the pod system colouring.  The pod comes with a black tint which makes it hard to see juice levels inside, I always prefer a clear pod to make it easier to see when to fill up.  Changing the cotton is a little fiddily and not something you can do on the go, same as filling the pod up.  So this will go against the Atopack because it isn’t the most convenient device on the market for pod systems.  Finally, considering the heat film is designed for around 40w in mind, the pod does feel a little underpowered as a result of this at only half the power from the battery.  It may have been a good option, similar to the Exceed kit that it had a bypass mode option to give a bigger hit if required for DL vapers.

The Atopack magic is a strange little device because as a pod system it is absolutely fantastic on paper.  The giant pod capacity, Pod life, battery life and quality of the product cannot be questioned here.  As a pod system, I would say this is one of the best on the market for both innovation and value for money.  Where I think the Atopack falls down a little bit is the practicality of the device, with the cotton change being something that cannot really be done on the go.  Once you step away from the quick convenience of a pod system then it kinda puts the device in a state of imbalance, more for the experienced vaper looking for a pod system as opposed to someone moving from smoking.  Overall though, the Atopack is a fantastic device that really does deliver in its purpose.  It seems to be more aimed at more experienced vapers but it still can be accessible to novices as well.

Joyetech start the year with the Atopack, but they still bring the magic that only they can.
